" so, it was an old house, surely there would be some creaking floorboards, you know the type - as if something or somebody was standing right behind you, maybe following you around that very old rickety house, probably a cat, couldn't really be a hobgoblin, ghost or worse, could it?
I feel certain that staircase window was wide open when i ascended this staircase, or was it just the wind, i hadn't noticed if the outside trees and bushes had been rustling, but then there was that sudden unexplained gust of cold air which brushed my face on this very rickety old staircase.
That far away crying and moaning sound which seemed to be getting closer as I walked slowly across the upstairs landing hadn't bothered me at first then the crying suddenly stopped and was replaced by heavy breathing, again it seemed to be getting closer, the moaning has also changed into the beastly gnarlly growl of something large and heavy, it was coming from right behind me, i started to walk more quickly and I didn't think of glancing round, until i tripped and fell sideways through the balcony...."
